Professor Brian Cox is convinced that the human race is on the verge of finding alien life.
The British physicist - who has presented scientific TV programmes such as 'Stargazing Life' and 'Wonders of the Universe' - believes that NASA's Perseverance rover could soon find extraterrestrial life after scouring the surface of Mars for the past 18 months.
The craft has now reached an ancient river delta where signs of life are most likely to be discovered.
Cox - who first found fame in the 1990s as the keyboardist in the band D:Ream - told Saga magazine: "If you're talking about complex life - UFOs and alien civilisations - most of the biologists I speak to think it's highly unlikely."
The scientist added: "The Perseverance rover on Mars at the moment will be collecting samples from an ancient river delta. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if we find signs of microbial life."
