Pope Francis could be about to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Talks about a ceasefire have been limited since Vladimir Putin ordered his troops to invade Ukraine over a year ago but reports from the Vatican suggest that the Russin tyrant is willing to listen to the pontiff's desperate pleas for peace.
An unnamed source told the Vatican's news site Il Sismografo said: "Together with Pope Francis we should ask, together with Ukraine, how to create peace: we cannot passively accept that the war of aggression continues in that country.
"It is the Ukrainian people who are dying and suffering.
"It is time to take initiatives to create a just peace in Ukraine and in all the so-called grey areas in Europe.
"I guarantee you that the Holy See will continue to play its part."
The anti-Putin Russian news site Meduza has said that Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni declined to comment on the reports, but added: "Now is the moment to take initiative to create a just peace in Ukraine."
Pope Francis has previously said that he is "willing" to make peace happen between the warring nations.
On a visit to Budapest last month, the pontiff said: "Everyone is interested in the path of peace. I am willing, I am willing to do everything that needs to be done.
"I went on a mission, but it's not public yet, let's see.
"When it's public, I'll talk about it."
