Most people in Britain think jam should go on scones before cream.
A poll carried out by Marie Curie for their Blooming Great Tea Party showed that 73% of the British public feel jam should be spread on the scone first, which is the method preferred by those in Cornwall while the rest backed the Devon style of cream on first.
Claire Richards - who is backing the charities new campaign - said: ''The people of Cornwall can rejoice at this result. The nation has spoken and sorry Devon, it's jam first and I agree 100%''
The research also found that Brits are more divided when it comes to how to pronounce the word - with 56% believing it should be pronounced to rhyme with 'stone' and the rest feeling it sounds similar to 'gone'.
