Eating peanut butter is great for sleep.
Researchers have found that tucking into the spread before nodding off is useful as the snack is high in the amino acid tryptophan - required by the body to make the hormones serotonin and melatonin - both of which help to regulate shuteye.
Wendy Low, a mother-of-two from Norwich, told the Daily Star newspaper: "I sleep like a log and it's all thanks to a banana dipped in peanut butter half an hour before bed for the past 20 years."
The Bed Kingdom study also revealed that cheese is one of the top foods to snack on at night, rubbishing the old tale that eating it before bedtime can cause nightmares.
However, the study has warned against eating tomatoes before bed as they can cause insomnia due to their high acidity.
