The 1930s Electrolux is owned by a family that purchased it back in 1949 and is an "heirloom" that has been passed down through generations.

The owner, named only as Robert, explained that it is still working in his garage and quipped that it should be given a "long service medal". He also revealed that he and his wife needed to rely on it recently when their modern fridge freezer broke during the recent heatwave in the UK.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "It’s an old workhorse. It definitely deserves a long service medal.

"We use it a Christmas when we need extra space or for storing apples in the summer. It’s been very well-behaved.

"We’re quite happy to be its guardians for years to come."
