Steven Chicken went for a meal at a fast food branch in West Yorkshire but had to wait for a seat as the restaurant was busy.
He added his name to the waiting list, but a member of staff assumed his name was a prank and missed him out.
Steven tweeted: ''The waiter in Nando's just skipped our name on the waiting list for a table because she thought it was a joke.''
More than 134,000 people liked the post, with over 11,000 retweeting it, although Steven later added that the issue was soon resolved.
He said: ''It wasn't a big deal at all really, but we knew we were meant to be next and we watched her pick up the clipboard, look confused, call the people after us, then go and ask her colleague, who had written our name down. Then we were seated pretty much immediately.''
Burger King poked fun at the incident, tweeting: ''Change your name to Steven Whopper and dinner's on us.''
