Climbers on Mount Everest have been ordered to clear up their own poo.
Authorities in the Pasang Lhamu rural municipality have introduced a new rule that means climbers attempting to scale the highest peak on the globe are required to purchase poo bags at base camp that will be "checked upon their return".
The law has been introduced as the bitterly cold temperatures on Everest means that excrement on the mountain does not degrade completely.
Mingma Sherpa, chairman of the municipality that covers much of the Everest region, told the BBC: "Our mountains have begun to stink.
"We are getting complaints that human stools are visible on rocks and some climbers are falling sick. This is not acceptable and erodes our image."
