Temperatures on the Moon dropped as a result of the coronavirus lockdown.
Researchers have found that nighttime temperatures on the lunar surface fell drastically at the height of the pandemic from April to May 2020.
Scientists believe that this could be down to the decrease in greenhouse gas emissions with people on Earth ordered to stay at home during lockdown.
It has emerged that the temperature fell significantly at six different sites on the Moon during the harshest restrictions of the global health crisis.
Researchers at the Physical Research Laboratory in Ahmedabad, India, said: "The Moon has possibly experienced the effect of COVID-19 lockdown, visualised as an anomalous decrease in lunar nighttime surface temperatures during that period."
The findings suggest that temperatures on the surface of the Moon could be used to study the impact of climate change on Earth, but the team believes that more research is required before conclusions can be made.
