Henry the spaniel had gone missing down a clifftop hole in Boscastle, Cornwall last week and his owners feared the worst when rescue teams had no success in locating the pooch.

However, local residents reported a barking dog and rescuers found Henry 20 feet down a hole. A "cliff technician" was sent to retrieve the canine with half a sausage roll and other doggy treats.

Boscastle Coastguard team said: "After 30 minutes of shuffling and squeezing and some lassoing, we managed to get a lead around the dog and pull him to safety to the overjoyed and happy owners."

The rescue team were praised online, with one person posting: "Henry's owners were out every day he was missing for hours at a time searching and never gave up hope. Thank you to all involved in making this happy ending."
