An amazing breakthrough has been made in the quest to stop people ageing.
Scientists say they have discovered a way to reverse the ageing process in human skin and claim that cells can be made 'younger' by 30 years.
The method rewinds the ageing process for longer than has been managed previously and does not do any damage to the cells.
Experts claim that they are even capable of partly restoring functions that have been lost in older cells.
The team used experiments that simulated a skin wound to produce repaired cells that behave like youthful cells.
The findings are still in the early stages but the process could be revolutionary if it can be replicated in other cell types.
Professor Wolf Reik, a group leader in the research, said: "This work has very exciting implications.
"Eventually, we may be able to identify genes that rejuvenate without reprogramming, and specifically target those to reduce the effects of ageing. This approach holds promise for valuable discoveries that could open up an amazing therapeutic horizon."
