A football fan from Mexico has broken the Guinness World Record for accumulating a collection of 1,230 different balls.
Rodrigo Romero Saldivar began his collection in 2006 after attending the World Cup in Germany. He bought a ball so that he and his friends could play as they watched the games.
The football fanatic continued to grow his collection by buying balls from various stores in Mexico. He then branched out internationally by purchasing balls from across the planet to eclipse the previous record tally of 861 footballs that was set by Argentine collector Fernando Fuglini.
Saldivar hopes that his new world record will serve as inspiration for others.
He told Guinness: "I want to show them that everything can be achieved if you set your mind to it, that in life nobody gives you anything, that I have been very lucky, but that is because I have looked for it.
"Luck does not come by itself; you find it and if you set your mind to it and fight for your dreams, the doors and roads become easier."
