A man lost his arm after being attacked by an alligator

Jordan Rivera lost his footing and fell into a pond behind Banditos bar in Port Charlotte where he was savaged by the 10-foot-long reptile that bit off his right arm above the elbow.

People at the bar rushed to Rivera's aid after they heard him screaming for help and prevented him from bleeding to death by applying a tourniquet.

The 23-year-old told NBC2 from his hospital bed: "I didn't lose my life, I lost an arm, it's not the end of the world, you know."

Rivera - who decided to urinate in the pond because the queue for the toilet was too long - has little memory of being attacked.

He said: "I ended up walking over to the water hole, I didn't realise how big it was at the time, as I was going over there something happened where I either tripped or the ground below me just went down.

"I ended up in the water. And that's literally the last thing I remember."
