A man has discovered the world's longest chip.
Richard Lay-Flurrie found a potato product measuring 8.1 inches (20.5 cm) while making his dinner and recalled how the massive snack landed with a thud when emptied a packet of McCain fries.
He told The Sun newspaper: "I was absolutely stunned when it came out.
"My dad almost fainted when he saw it. I couldn’t believe how long it was.
"I felt slightly threatened and intimidated by its size. It was vast."
The previous record stood at 8 inches and Lay-Flurrie, from Essex, knew that the chip was historic after he got out his tape measure to verify his record claim.
The IT worker explained: "I saw the previous holder and knew mine had it beaten so I measured it — and sure enough it was bigger.
"It feels great to be number one in the world for something."
