Reports came in on Monday morning (18.10.21) about a man who hadn’t returned from his trek and the Lake Country Search and Rescue team in Colorado were alerted when the hiker failed to return to his friends.

The search and rescue team attempted to call the missing hiker’s mobile but found the attempts ignored. They continued to look for the missing hiker until the next day but had no success in locating him.

Fortunately, the man eventually located his car and returned to where he was staying.

When questioned by officials, the hiker told them he ignored the search and rescue team’s phone calls as he assumed they were nuisance calls or scammers.

The rescue team wrote on Facebook: “One notable take-away is that the subject ignored repeated phone calls from us because they didn’t recognise the number.

"If you’re overdue according to your itinerary, and you start getting repeated calls from an unknown number, please answer the phone; it may be a SAR team trying to confirm you’re safe!”
