''It's amazing that nearly three quarters of a century after her creation, Lassie is still a much-loved household name.''
Lassie has been crowned the nation's favourite fictional dog.
The pooch character - made famous from the 20-year TV series of the same name, which ran from 1954 to 1974 - has taken the pet prize following a survey by Mountain Warehouse, who has asked 2,000 Brits which hounds from our screens and books have a special place in their hearts.
The results revealed saw Lassie - who was created by author Eric Knight - rake in a quarter of the votes (25 per cent).
Mark Neale, Founder of Mountain Warehouse, said: ''It's amazing that nearly three quarters of a century after her creation, Lassie is still a much-loved household name.''
Scooby Doo scored second place in the canine poll, Beethoven came in third, followed closely by Toto from 'The Wizard of Oz'.
