Kim Jong-un says Russia "will prevail" in its fight with "imperialists".
The North Korean dictator appeared to take aim at Ukraine and its Western allies by suggesting that Moscow is fighting for world peace and to protect stability in the region.
Kim's comments came in a letter to Vladimir Putin, according to the state news agency KCNA, and echoed the Russian despot's sentiments in his Victory Day address on Tuesday (09.05.23).
North Korea has forged closer ties with the Kremlin since Russia invaded Ukraine last year and Kim's letter reinforces the alliance between the two nations that have been isolated by the international community.
The Supreme Leader's message to Putin read: "We send warm wishes to you, the Russian army and the people of Russia for their holy fight to preserve world peace."
Kim also congratulated Putin on the Victory Day anniversary - which celebrates the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945 - and declared that Russia would continue to protect its "autonomy" and the "stability of the region".
The tyrant praised Moscow for undertaking a "sacred struggle to realise international justice and defend global peace against the high-handed and arbitrary practices of the imperialists".
