Kim Jong-un has attended the opening ceremony of a new greenhouse farm built on a former missile test site.
The North Korean dictator was present at the launch of the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm on Monday (10.10.22) to mark the anniversary of the founding of the ruling Workers' Party - a major holiday in the nation.
The North's ruling party unveiled the project to transform the Ryonpho air base – located in the eastern county of Hamju - into a "highly automated farm" and a model for rural civilisation. It was labelled as a "top priority task" by the party at its key policy meeting last December.
The isolated nation used the area for several launches of short-range ballistic missiles, including the suspected KN-23s in March 2021.
The farm has more than 850 blocks of modern greenhouses and will add facilities such as houses and schools, the official KCNA news agency has reported.
Kim, 38, has spearheaded the farm initiative to boost vegetable supplies and has praised soldiers and workers for their quick work in completing the construction.
The despot's ruling party plans to "more dynamically and confidently push forward the overall rural development of the country with the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm as a model".
Kim has called for more large farms to be built to increase the variety of vegetables to be supplied in a nation that has always struggled with food shortages.
Meanwhile, the dictator has vowed to strengthen North Korea's nuclear operations going forward.
An intermediate-range ballistic missile was sent over Japan last week and the South Korean military said that a pair of short-range of ballistic missiles were detected overnight on Saturday (08.10.22).
Kim insists that there is no need to have dialogue with the North's enemies in the wake of the missile tests.
