Tapas Sandilya lost his spouse Indrani to COVID-19 in May 2021 and decided to commission the replica so his wife would always be present in his life.

The 30kg replica is adorned with a silk sari and jewellery and sits on the swing - her favourite spot at the pair's house in the state of West Bengal.

Sandilya claims that he is fulfilling his wife's wishes with the replica after she had asked him to build a statue of her in the event of her death.

He told The Times of India newspaper: "We visited the Iskcon temple in Mayapur a decade ago and could not stop admiring the lifelike statue of the order's founder AC Bhaktivedanta Swami.

"It was then Indrani told me of her desire for a similar statue if she happened to pass away before me."

Sandilya added: "My wife died on May 4, 2021 and I just wanted to fulfill her wish."
