Tech expert Kamales Lardi has claimed that "malicious" people are more likely to cause global destruction rather than computer-generated bots.

She has called for greater scrutiny of those building future technology to monitor if it could be misused by individuals.

Lardi, who runs a consultancy firm in Switzerland, said: "With any tech there's always been good and bad - the dark net, for example.

"We lack the right values and leadership, particularly in tech companies, to ensure that tech is not applied in a malicious way,"

AI is being used for elements of day-to-day life such as face recognition on phones and Lardi believes that the perils of the tech are being overstated.

She said: "There has been a lot of talk around tech being harmful.

"But we've heard very little about the people who are developing the technology."
