Animal rescuers in Wales were called out after the horse escaped from her grazing area and ended up submerged in the muddy land.

RSPCA officer Mark Roberts believes that the horse's hooves were not touching the bottom of the swamp and the rescue was made extremely complex by the bog.

He said: "The area around the horse was a thick mat of moss, reeds and roots, as well as mud, so we had to force our arms as far as we could to get two straps around the horse's body. This was the hardest and most time-consuming part of the rescue."

Roberts added that it was fortunate that the horse had been wearing rugs as they prevented hypothermia.

He said: "Miraculously her core temperature was normal as she had been wearing two rugs, which probably saved her life and stopped hypothermia from setting in."
