A pair of hikers found a message dropped by a carrier pigeon in 1910.
Jade Halaoui was walking with his partner in northeastern France when they came across the tiny aluminum cylinder on the floor.
He explained: "I dug it up and I cut it to see what was inside."
The cylinder contained a small piece of paper bearing a message that they were unable to make out, so they turned to expert Dominique Jardy - who enlisted the assistance of a German-speaking friend to translate the message.
Research uncovered that the message was dated from July 16, 1910.
Jardy revealed that the discovery was "exceptional" and really unusual.
He told CNN: "It's really very, very, very rare. It's really exceptional."
