Marrying a sex robot will be considered 'normal' by 2050, an expert has claimed.
Dr. David Levy believes that views on robot partners will shift in the coming decades, in a similar way that opinions on gay marriage have changed in recent times.
Levy said: "By 2050 there will be marrying robots, falling in love with robots and having sex with robots on a regular basis.
"There are people who have feelings of love for sex dolls so the potential is there for many to fall in love with robots."
Levy, the author of 'Love and Sex with Robots', stressed the importance of lifelike sex robots to help combat loneliness amongst people.
He said: "I've always felt the greatest advantage of having lifelike sex robots was for people who, for whatever reason, are unable to form relationships with humans.
"Good sex robots that are convincing in appearance and performance will help such people to become happier and less lonely."
