Guzzling just a single energy drink per month can destroy your sleep.
Norwegian researchers have discovered that those who regularly consume cans of drinks such as Red Bull and Monster are at an increased risk of insomnia.
People aged between 18 and 35 who had energy drinks every day slept for around half an hour less than those who only drank them occasionally or not at all.
The high caffeine content in the drinks has a damaging impact on sleep quality, even if a person only has them occasionally.
Siri Kaldenbach, who led the study for Innlandet Hospital Trust, said: "Even small amounts of energy drinks were associated with poorer sleep outcomes.
"Most of the associations between energy drink and sleep were similar for male and female students but with a few notable exceptions.
"For bedtime and rise time, we observed a significantly stronger effect for men compared with women."
Gavin Partington, of the British Soft Drinks Association, argues that the study is only "observational" and does not prove that energy drinks cause bad sleep.
