Scientists have advised people to think about the environment when getting intimate and have suggested that people should avoid having sex in the shower.

The experts have also urged lovers to use biodegradable condoms and use sex toys made from alternatives to plastic so they can minimise the damage to the planet while getting frisky.

Dr. Adenike Akinsemolu, an environmental sustainability scientist from Nigeria, said: "Being eco-friendly sexually means selecting lubes, toys, bed sheets and condoms that have less impact on the planet."

He continued: "The water-based lubricants, organic and vegan condoms are a good pick for having fun and embracing a sustainable sex life.

"They not only cause minor damage to the environment but offer their users a great time."

Condoms present one of the planet's biggest eco hazards as an estimated 10 billion are manufactured each year with most ending up on landfill sites.
