Experts have revealed that the beverage is a wonder drug that reduces stress and helps the body fight bugs.

The US Tea Council studied the benefits of compounds called flavonoids from black, green and herbal teas and found that they strengthen the immune system and help it fight off bacterial and viral infections.

Dr. Taylor Wallace said: "This bountiful beverage is one which people can easily add to better their diet and create a healthier and longer life."

Separate findings in Australia found that those who drink between one and five cups of tea per day are at a lower risk of dementia.

Further research also revealed that a daily cuppa slashes the risk of strokes and heart disease.
