Donald Trump has complained about the nastiness of the political world as the criminal cases against him proceed.
The former US president gave a doom-laden take on the state of American politics as he was answering a question about his Republican rival Ron DeSantis' hopes of winning the party's 2028 nomination
In an interview with Newsmax, Trump said: "You don't walk into anything. This is a tough world in politics. This is a nasty, nasty world, as we found out. Probably it's never been nastier than it is right now. Because we have sick people. We have sick people in office, and again, they are a bigger problem than the outside world."
Trump is facing charges in three separate criminal cases but once again turned his fire at the "radical fascists" in the current US government.
The billionaire said: "These people we have, these radical fascists and Marxists that we have in our government - you can't talk to them. They're nuts. They're crazy."
Trump also mocked DeSantis, who had been considered his main rival for the nomination but has seen his support tail off in recent months, for his lack of "personality".
The divisive politician said: "DeSantis is a failed candidate. If I didn't endorse DeSantis (as Governor of Florida) he wouldn't ever have won.
"And you know what? He's a failed candidate again. He's got no personality, and he's dropped like a rock."
