The pizza chain has revealed that the robot will be delivering to customers in the city of Houston who opt-in to the new scheme.

The robot, which received approval from the US government last year, will carry pizzas to customer's homes. A text message will then be sent to them with updates on the delivery status and a PIN to put into the robot's touchscreen so they can receive their food.

Dennis Maloney, Domino's senior vice president and chief innovation officer, said: "There is still so much for our brand to learn about the autonomous delivery space.

"This programme will allow us to better understand how customers respond to the deliveries, how they interact with the robot and how it affects store operations."
