Dogs that were deemed too friendly to join the police are to be auctioned in China.
The Criminal Investigation Police University of China in northeastern Liaoning province are looking for new homes for 54 pooches who failed to pass their training as they weren't deemed to have the right temperament for a career in law and order.
The school explained the dogs were rejected from the programme for reasons including timid personalities, physical weakness or frailty, failing to follow instructions and refusing to bite when prompted.
The canines - mainly Belgian malinois, German shepherds and Dutch shepherd hybrids - will be auctioned on 7 July, with bids starting at $30.
Buyers must sign an agreement to follow government regulations for the dogs' care and will be banned from reselling or rehoming their new pets.
