A new study has found that larger breeds of pooch, such as German shepherds and Labradors, are found to be good "wingmen" for humans looking for love.

The poll conducted by pet care service Rover discovered that people were 56 per cent more likely to talk to a stranger at a bar if they had a dog with them.

Canine behaviour expert Adam Fehmi said: "It's no surprise that having a dog can boost your chances of meeting a partner and forming a connection - especially in social settings like a pub.

"Dogs are naturally very social and, by their nature, help to bring people together. They are a great way to break the ice in many a social situation."

A spokeswoman for Rover added: "Man's best friend is also, in fact, his best wingman. On top of sparking conversations between strangers in pubs, they can ignite romantic sparks too."
