Max, a black Labrador, was locked inside the grey sedan after his owner briefly stepped out of the car in Florida.

The owner and police officers tried to figure out how to unlock the car, whilst the pet pooch took out a rubbish bin and a postbox.

They eventually managed to open the car by entering a code into the keypad on the driver's side door.

Neighbour Anna Sabol described the incident to WPTV, saying: ''I figured 'how the heck did they manage to do that?' Then I saw another cop car and another cop car.

''I laughed. I thought that they should give the dog a licence to drive. He was a better driver than a lot of them I've seen.''

Nobody was injured the incident - and Max was healthy, happy and wagging his tail when he got out of the vehicle.
