A woman moved to a funeral home after being declared 'dead' stunned staff when it turned out she was alive.
Constance Glantz, 74, was thought to have passed away in a Nebraska hospice but it was only when an undertaker was preparing the body for her funeral that it was discovered that she was still breathing.
Emergency services gave Glantz CPR and she was taken to hospital, although her condition has not been made public since.
Lancaster County Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said: "It's a very unusual case.
"Been doing this 31 years and nothing like this has ever gotten to this point before.
"We have not been able to find any criminal intent by the nursing home but the investigation is ongoing."
Houchin added: "I'm sure the nursing home and everybody else is going to be taking a look into what has happened, and I'm sure they'll look and see if new protocols need to be made and if they were all followed."
