The Beatrix Potter collection was released in 2016 and proved to be a hit with the public, with the most popular being one with a portrait of character's head and shoulders, wearing his famous waistcoat.
The listing appeared online with the caption: ''Rare 2016 peter rabbit 50p.''
However, it transpires the 2016 Peter Rabbit version of the coin is actually not rare at all, according to coin website Change Checker.
The coin has a mintage figure of 9,600,000, making it one of the most common 50p coins.
