Spanish police have seized 147 pounds of cocaine smuggled in hollowed-out pineapples.
The National Police has confirmed the fruit was shipped from Costa Rica - via the Portugese port of Setubal - and landed in Madrid, where the drugs were discovered.
Investigators have announced the arrest of seven suspects - three in Madrid and four in Barcelona in connection with the incident after the hidden cocaine was found at the MercaMardrid market.
According to a police statement, each individual pineapple was ''perfectly hollowed out and stuffed with compact cylinders'' containing cocaine, and it was then coated with wax or yellow paraffin in order to mask the ''odors of the chemical products which the drug contains and avoid its detection''.
