A chimpanzee escaped from a zoo before returning of its own accord.
The primate made a bid for freedom at Taronga Zoo in Sydney last week but soon returned to its own enclosure without any intervention.
The zoo's emergency response unit was activated but was ultimately not needed, although the chimpanzee will remain off display to visitors as zookeepers investigate how the animal escaped.
A statement from the zoo said: "Taronga has strict safety protocols for such an incident. All people on site were immediately directed to enter secure areas until the situation was resolved.
"The zoo remains open, however, Taronga's chimp troop will remain off display until a full investigation has been completed.
"Taronga is pleased to report that all people and animals, including the adventurous chimp, are all safe."
