Cat and dog owners struggle to sleep at night.
A new study conducted on 5,000 people found that snoring is common among dog owners and cat lovers have a higher chance of leg cramps.
Other night time issues for pet owners included struggling to nod off, needing pills or waking up mid-sleep.
Dr. Lauren Wisnieski, who led the US study, said: "Dogs and cats may be beneficial for sleep quality as they provide social support.
"But pets may also disrupt sleep."
More research needs to be done before it can be established why the pets caused sleeping issues and then treatments can be found.
Over half of the households in Britain own a pet - typically dogs or cats - and three-quarters of adults do not get the recommended seven hours of sleep per night.
