Canadian astronauts are no longer allowed to commit crimes in space.
The nation's government has cracked down on space criminals with an amendment in the legislation implementing Canada's federal budget for 2022.
The move comes in preparation for the country's involvement in the NASA mission Lunar Gateway, where the space agency will establish a permanent space station in lunar orbit.
The measure, included in the 443-page legislation, explains: "A Canadian crew member who, during a space flight, commits an act or omission outside Canada that if committed in Canada would constitute an indictable offence is deemed to have committed that act or omission in Canada."
Astronauts who board the International Space Station (ISS) are already subject to criminal jurisdiction, which states that anybody aboard the station is subject to the laws in their home country.
