To mark the recent Notting Hill Carnival, Just Eat have crowned London the Caribbean cuisine capital of the UK, followed by Plymouth, Cardiff, Cambridge and Brighton, but despite so many people professing a love for the culinary treats, 80% always opt for the Jamaican favourite, with a staggering number having never tried any other dish from the region.

18 per cent of those surveyed admitted they were concerned about being served something too spicy, while 26% were unsure of what else to order, and 21% were worried they would then not like a dish they weren't already familiar with.

As 88% admitted they'd love to try a new dish, The Caribbean Food Collective have drawn up a list of jerk-alternatives, including Escovitch fish, a traditional Jamaican favourite, Trinidad and Tobago's beloved curried goat, Callaloo - a vegetable dish which varies across the islands - and pineapple cake.

Marsha Barnett and Dawn Burton, Directors of the Caribbean Food Collective said: “While Jerk chicken is ‘King’ at Notting Hill Carnival, there are many more dishes to explore. The Caribbean is a melting pot of different cultures, and each island will have their own version of popular dishes. So whether you like fragrant curries, veggie-packed stews, a bit of chilli heat or crispy fried fish, there really is something for everyone”.

Matt Bushby, UK Marketing Director at Just Eat added: “With over 400 Caribbean restaurants serving hundreds of different dishes on Just Eat, there's no better opportunity to step out of the jerk chicken comfort zone and try something tasty today.”
