Britain and the United States would be obliterated by Russian nuclear strikes, the nation's state media has claimed.
Colonel Igor Korotchenko, the editor-in-chief of Russia's National Defence magazine, said that the missile and bomber drills overseen by Vladimir Putin on Wednesday (26.10.22) were to showcase the country's ability to carry out nuclear strikes on enemy states if they are targeted.
Korotchenko told state television: "Who could launch a first nuclear strike on Russia? The US and the UK. I don't know if (French President) Macron is someone who would join this adventure... It is very important that we have shown who our main enemies are and what awaits them."
Korotchenko boasted that Britain would be submerged beneath the Atlantic Ocean if the strikes were carried out for real.
He said: "There is no compromise. The signal has been sent (to the US and UK). This (should make them) sober up and clear their minds. This is not nuclear blackmail. This is what we would really do (if) we get hit."
Russia also increased tensions by suggesting that it could attack the West's commercial satellites in "retaliation" for the countries supporting Ukraine's war efforts.
Konstantin Vorontsov, deputy director of the Russian foreign ministry's department for non-proliferation and arms control, told the United Nations that Western satellites being used to help Ukraine was an "extremely dangerous trend".
He said: 'Quasi-civilian infrastructure may be a legitimate target for a retaliatory strike."
