A man has discovered bitcoins he bought four years ago are now worth over £550,000.
''It said I had 5,000 bitcoins in there. Measuring that in today's rates it's about five million kroner ($551,500).''
Kristoffer Koch spent just £17 on 5,000 bitcoins - the experimental digital currency - in 2009, but he forgot about them until this year and has now found out he has been sitting on a fortune for almost half a decade.
Speaking to NRK, he said: ''It said I had 5,000 bitcoins in there. Measuring that in today's rates it's about five million kroner ($551,500).''
Koch has exchanged one fifth of his 5,000 bitcoins, which he wrote while writing a thesis on encryption three years ago, and has now splashed out on an impressive apart in Toyen in one of Norwegian's wealthiest areas.
The value of the bitcoin has since slumped by 20 per cent.
