A parrot has been accepted to stand in a local election in Belarus.
''where is money?'', ''I want to go to the council chamber,'' and even had his own political slogan ''Yasha is good.''
The bird called Yasha was entered by his owner, Kanstantsin Zhukouski, to poke fun at the political process in his town.
The application was accepted by the local electoral commission despite it containing the parrot's image photoshopped onto Mr Zhukouski's passport.
Talking to news agency Belapan, Mr Zhukouski joked that his parrot had always dreamed of running in the local elections and had learnt several phrases to encourage voters including ''where is money?'', ''I want to go to the council chamber,'' and even had his own political slogan ''Yasha is good.''
He added: ''As long as there is a passport copy, you may draw even a pig, and as today's case shows, even get it registered.''
Mr Zhukouski claims Yasha has since pulled out of the election because ''being a regional councillor isn't very prestigious.''
He was also facing a possible penalty for electoral fraud.
