Britain's fat cows are being urged to diet.

''Some producers are concerned about the condition of their cows and the potential for a much higher risk of calving difficulties when calving starts in a month's time.''

Britain's fat cows are being urged to diet after scientists claim they've overeaten in previous months.

Scientists at Scotland's Rural College have claimed good grass-growing conditions last year and excellent silage and hay have caused the mammal to put on excess weight.

Livestock farmers have been told to identify the cattle which has overeaten and help them lose weight to ensure they don't face health problems.

Beef specialist Dr Basil Lowman noticed the problem and warned of the risks this may cause.

Sky News reports he said: ''Some producers are concerned about the condition of their cows and the potential for a much higher risk of calving difficulties when calving starts in a month's time.''
