Oyster the cat takes a ride on the tube

A cat named Oyster rode on the London Underground to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

''I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Oyster sitting on a seat on the Tube.''

The feline - named after the cards used to pay for travel on the Tube network - strolled onto the Victoria Line train at Seven Sisters station, north London, found itself a seat and headed south.

Rush hour commuters were stunned and nicknamed the cat ''Oyster'' after the London travelcards.

Luckily, Paige Jokovic, who volunteers at the shelter, also boarded the train.

Paige said: ''I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Oyster sitting on a seat on the Tube.''

Battersea's Head of Cattery, Lindsey Quinlan, said: ''Oyster is very lucky to have been found on the Tube by Paige who was able to bring him to Battersea.

''Oyster doesn't have a microchip, so if nobody comes forward to collect him, he will be re-homed.''
