A 31lb cat has died of heart failure aged six.
''It's our hope Buddha will not have died in vain. We hope that his story inspires owners of obese cats to help them get them on a path to a healthier weight. (sic)''
Buddha, who shot to fame after a video of him using an underwater treadmill was posted online, passed away from congestive heart failure, despite getting his weight down to just 24lb, only 4lb away from his target weight.
However, the feline was unable to do a lot more exercise after being diagnosed with a congenital heart defect.
The moggy was rescued by a volunteer at the Nashville Cat Shoppe and Dog Store, and the shop is now planning to hold a memorial for him later this month.
A statement on the store's website read: ''Our bouncy Buddha cat has been stilled but his spirit lingers on!! He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed!
