A man has settled down with a Volkswagen Beatle after having sex with hundreds of cars.
Edward Smith, a self-confessed mechaphile - meaning he is sexually attracted to machines - has finally committed himself to his second-hand vehicle, Vanilla, which he purchased 30 years ago, after bedding nearly 1,000 lovers, only one of which was a person.
The 62-year-old American is quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: ''When I hold Vanilla in my arms there's a powerful energy that comes from her.
''I would say it is extremely satisfying but at times a little melancholy because I know she cannot talk to me. But overall I know she feels what I feel and it's intense.
''If anything was to happen to her I would be more than heartbroken.''
