A shark attack victim sewed up his own wounds and then rewarded himself with a pint of beer.
''It was pretty well latched on, I was just trying to get it off ... The shark got a few stabs. The knife wasn't long enough though.''
James Grant was paddling in the water at a beach in New Zealand when the sharp toothed creature took hold of his leg, but luckily he had his diving knife with him.
He told The Southland Times newspaper: ''It was pretty well latched on, I was just trying to get it off ... The shark got a few stabs. The knife wasn't long enough though.''
When the predator finally released him, James managed to stumble back to the shore where he sewed the wound together with a needle and thread from his first-aid kit.
The young doctor was then joined by his friends, who, after realising the seriousness of the incident, took their pal to the pub for a well-deserved beer.
James later admitted that he was ''pretty grateful'' to still have his leg.
