A rare book predicting extraterrestrial life has been discovered in the Cotswolds and is looking to fetch for thousands at auction.
The book titled ‘Celestial Worlds’ was first published in 1698 by author Christiaan Huygens, who has a fascination with aliens.
Books valuer Jim Spencer found the book at a free antique valuation event Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire and said that the content is “almost comical” after Huygens questions the purpose of God creating planets just to be “looked upon from Earth".
He also wrote that aliens have hands and feet like humans out of “convenience” and added:
"What could we invent or imagine that could be so exactly accommodated to all the design'd uses as the Hands are? Shall we give them an Elephant's Proboscis."
Mr. Spencer said its fascinating to read a book from the past that predicts matters of our future.
He said: "It's fascinating to think who turned these pages in 1698, what they must've felt when reading these descriptions of life on Jupiter or Saturn before gazing up at the night sky.
"And who knows how our own thoughts on these matters will appear to people looking back in 324 years,"
The antique will be listed for sale on July 5 in Hanson’s Library Auction at Bishton Hall in Staffordshire and is looking to fetch between £2,000 and £3,000.
