A 30-year-old Portuguese dog has been named as the oldest pooch ever.
Bobi was born on May 11 1992 and has earned a place in the Guinness World Records after surpassing Bluey, an Australian canine who died in 1939 at the age of 29 years and five months.
Bobi is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed that has an average life expectancy of 12 to 14 years.
The dog's ripe old age has been verified by the Portuguese government's pet database.
Bobi has spent his entire life with the Costa family in the village of Conqueiros and his owner Leonel Costa credits the "calm, peaceful environment" for the animal's longevity.
Costa added that the pet eats the same meals as the family and has never been chained up or put on a lead.
However, age is taking its toll on Bobi as he has trouble walking and worsening eyesight.
He said: "Bobi has been a warrior for all these years, only he knows how he’s been holding on – it must not be easy because the average dog’s life span is not that high.
"If he spoke only he could explain this success."
