Jocelyn Rivas completed the final leg of her quest at the Los Angeles Marathon on Sunday (07.11.21) and is now awaiting ratification from Guinness World Records.

Rivas, who moved to the US from El Salvador as a child, first became interested in running marathons after attending the LA event in 2013.

She ran her first race the following year and has since run marathons across 14 states in the US.

The previous benchmark had been set in 2011 by the British runner Elizabeth Tunna, who was only a few months older than Rivas when she completed her century.

Rivas had been set to break the record with time to spare, but the coronavirus pandemic meant she has had to take part in 30 races this year to earn her place in the record books.

The Los Angeles Marathon congratulated Rivas on the achievement on Instagram, writing: "Way to go Jocelyn, you're an amazing inspiration. We're so glad you chose Los Angeles Marathon for Number 100."
