A 101-year-old man in West Virginia was finally given his high school diploma.
Merrill Pittman, 101, was forced to drop out of Storer College, anex-high school in Jefferson County’s Harper’s Ferry when his mother had to move to Philadelphia for money reasons in 1938, over 80 years go.
In 2018, while returning to his old stomping ground, Merrill shared his regret about never graduating, prompting his family to get in touch with the school. However, his dream came true at a special ceremony where Merrill was given his diploma in front of his family, which the school was “honoured” to make happen.
Bondy Shay Gibson-Learn, the local superintendent said: "Jefferson County Schools is committed to helping every student, young or old, fulfill their dreams. For Mr. Cooper, that meant receiving a high school diploma. We are honored to help make that dream a reality."
