Nearly a quarter of UK girls have been missing out on speaking up in class because they hate the way their body looks.
According to findings revealed by the Dove Self-Esteem Project (DSEP) on International Day of the Girl, today (11.10.13), 23 per cent of those aged 11 to 14 decide against putting their hand up to answer a question at school and nine per cent don't even attend birthday parties as a result of body issues.
Lucy Attley, Dove UK & Ireland Brand Director, said: ''Lack of self-esteem is leading to girls missing out on activities and society missing out on the contributions these activities could bring.
''The aim of the Dove Self-Esteem Project is to help make girls unstoppable by overcoming poor body confidence and our partnership with Girlguiding in the UK enables us to positively influence thousands of young girls and help put a stop to them missing out on simple everyday activities because of how they feel about their bodies.''
Dove have launched a 'Missing Out' installation on the Riverside Terrace at the Southbank Centre, London, which is live from now until October 13.
